Did you know?

It only takes on average 15 minutes to collect a proper sample of DNA.

A cheek swab sample from your mouth will produce the same DNA results as a blood sample.

Some paternity labs will call your house marketing new products. At Genetic Professionals we believe in your privacy and never abuse our clients' trust.

Testing Accuracy

At Genetic Professionals, DNA paternity testing and human identification testing are our only businesses. We are experts in DNA testing and human identification. We are focused on ensuring that you receive the most accurate test results possible. From the moment your samples arrive at the laboratory, great care is taken to check and double check all steps. Our goal is not to get the results out in the fastest way possible, but to deliver the absolutely ACCURATE test results within a reasonable amount of time. Each step in the laboratory is important and should not be rushed. By efficiently following the proper procedure, accurate testing results are achieved every time.

DNA Paternity testing involves a series of calculations to achieve a Paternity Index (PI). This PI will then translate into a Probability of Paternity percentage. Many testing companies boast of a number such as 99.9% probability of paternity. The probability of paternity will vary from test to test, but not when the same individuals are tested.

Genetic Professionals’ 99.99% Accuracy guarantee
If the Mother, Child, and Alleged Father all participate in the testing, we guarantee a probability of paternity of 99.99% or higher for inclusion and 100% for exclusion. For cases including only the Child and Alleged Father, we guarantee a probability of paternity of 99.9% or higher for inclusion and 100% for exclusion. If we do not meet our guarantee, we will refund the amount paid to us for the DNA paternity testing.

AABB Accreditation is Quality Assurance
The governing body for paternity testing in the United States is the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). They continually set standards for laboratories to achieve in order to obtain and retain their accreditation. Laboratories that do not have AABB accreditation may lack the current technology, do not meet testing standards, or a do not have qualified scientists (with PhD degrees), all of which are necessary to produce accurate results. The laboratory we use to obtain results has maintained its AABB certification for the past 8 years.

How Paternity is Accurately Determined
The most recent advances in DNA research are based on the 13 CODIS identifying DNA markers used by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). These 13 loci, or locations on the DNA. have been established as the standard for human identification worldwide. A person’s genetic profile can be characterized by the sizes of these loci. The loci are inherited in a predictable pattern from the parents to the child.

A DNA paternity test looks for the presence of this pattern by comparing the genetic profile of a child to the genetic profile of the mother and alleged father. The alleged father’s genetic profile must have a match on every locus in the child’s profile. A paternity index is then calculated based on how common, or how rare, each of the loci is in the population. A paternity index of 99.99% or higher is achieved when all loci of the father are matched with the all loci of the child. A paternity index of 0 is achieved when an insufficient number of loci match. Our laboratory tests a minimum of 16 loci, three more than the minimum FBI requirement, to ensure accurate results.
