DNA and Paternity Testing FAQs
Q. Can the test be performed without the mother?
A. Yes. If the mother is not available for testing, our advanced DNA paternity testing can still generate same conclusive results.
Q. Is blood sample required for testing?
A. No. All cells contain the same DNA information. There is no difference between a blood sample and a tissue sample. Genetic Professionals’ advanced technology allows us to collect samples using a simple buccal swab. Our clients can use our swab kit to collect their own samples quickly, painlessly and confidentially. The results from testing the sample collected on the buccal swab are 100% accurate.
Q. How do I collect my own samples using a buccal swab kit ?
A. Genetic Professionals’ DNA paternity test is fast, simple, and painless. DNA is collected using special swabs that are like cotton tips. Gently rub the inner cheek with the swab to collect DNA samples. Buccal swabs are painless and can be used to collect samples from individuals at any age, even newborns.
Q. The mother, child, and alleged father live in different cities. Can I order a DNA paternity test if the different parties to be tested are not together?
A. Yes, we can send our DNA collection kits to all tested parties at different locations if an in-home paternity test is ordered from Genetic Professionals. For chain-of-custody tests, we have a large sample collection network throughout North America, and we can easily arrange a convenient sample collection appointment for you near your home or work.
Q. Is there an age limit to testing children?
A. Our paternity testing kit can be used for patients at any age. Using our swab, it is safe and painless to collect samples even from newborns.
Q.How long does it take to get the results?
A. Our laboratory begins testing immediately after it receives all samples. The test is completed in 5 working days and results are available immediately, as long as the balance is paid in full. You can even choose to receive your in-home testing results via email.
Q. What is the difference between the legal and the private test?
A. There is no difference in terms of the testing technique or the accuracy between the chain-of-custody and in-home paternity tests. The only difference is that with the legal test, you will need to have a neutral third party collect your samples and have yourself positively identified using government issued IDs. Chain-of-custody paternity testing results can be used in a court of law while in-home testing results are not accepted by courts or other government agencies.
Q. Do you charge for telephone consultation?
A. No, there is no charge for telephone consultations. You are welcome to contact our laboratory at any time by phone at 1-877-444-7362 for all your questions.
